Audio track conversion to stereo stim file

Post by feetinflips »

Hi,

Is there a way to convert audio tracks or porn audio into a stereo stim file, please?

Many "normal" audio files do not directly convert well to stim audio files. Music has fast attack beats which lead to a painful stim session. Even speech can be quite fast to the attack, and be painful to stim to. I find even the published stim files which are meant to sound more like music don't work very well.

So my question would be, what is your intent? Or why do you specifically want to convert that particular piece of audio?

One possible way to do it is to extract the envelope from the audio (see Hilbert transform) then smooth it, and use that as an envelope to modulate a more standard stim signal. There are various ways to modulate a stim signal, from the mundane amplitude modulation, the slightly more exotic frequency modulation, the little known pulse width modulation or the esoteric inter channel "beats" (triphase) modulation.

If you were looking to make a stim track synched to a movie, You could look at measuring the frame differences, this would give higher values for fast movement and lower for less movement, but that will be any movement in the scene, camera move, flick of the hair, you may need to stabilize the video and then crop it to focus on a particular area of motion.

Most digital audio software won't do what you want, as it's tuned for our ears. I've found that stim audio is like dsp radio but in the audio frequency range. Again not very common to find software of that type, there are some generation software around but none for analysis.

I wouldn't call converting a normal audio track to a stim track trivial. However don't let that scare you off. If you have an idea, I'm pretty good with making my own custom dsp software and would be interested in hearing more about this project.
