Did any one hear (or see) this?

Post by electricshockjock »

A few days ago I was listening to The Chris Moyles Show On Radio X whilst out in the car one morning. (Just to explain, for the international users, Chris was the presenter of UK's most popular national radio show on the BBC until about ten years ago. In recent years he has returned on a national commercial station.) He and his team started talking about an item they vaguely described as an 'Electric Shock Machine' and using it live on air. Listening to Chris's description of the 'machine' I thought "That sounds familiar"! Later on that that day I saw this video posted on social media and spotted that the machine in question was, in fact, an ElectroHelix!

Chris's explanation that the team "found" the machine in the office left me with more questions than answers. :?: I'm assuming they knew exactly what the machine was but didn't want to elaborate on Breakfast radio!

Nevertheless, I thought it might be interesting to post it here. They also did a follow up video a few days later.

Certainly nothing negative (no pun intended :) ) came from it but it not quite the expected use or the target audience, I assume? I guess any publicity is good publicity?

Here's a link to the original video, anyway. Shots of the 'machine' itself starts to appear from 1:04:-

The follow up video is here (they even mentioned the brand at one point):-

Might even be a useful 'lead' (again no pun intended! :D ) for the E-stim team to follow up on as they do regularly 'sail close to the wind' in this general area. For example, they've featured the Lovehoney advent calendar a few years, opening a door each day in on the radio in the run up to Christmas, which produced some entertaining radio as the team attempted to 'safely' describe the contents!

We have been supplying a number of TV shows over the years, most of the time we are not allowed to mention anything :-), but good spot!!

Yes, clearly the Helix.

I have mixed feelings about this sort of use of the E-Stim Products. Part of me says that any exposure of the product on national radio/TV has to be a good thing for the brand (although the brand name isn't actually mentioned). But the other part of me says that it helps perpetuate the myth that electro is all about inflicting eletric shocks/pain. (Note the use of the verb "electrocute" in this clip). I'm sure we've all seen porn movies too where the sub is screaming out in "pain" from electro.

But we know that there's a whole other more exciting side to the technology which, by its very nature, can't be explored on mainstream media. Well, not during family viewing hours, at least. And that makes me a bit frustrated.

the myth will perpetuate for ever as we teach children from a young age that electricity will give you shocks, and is 'dangerous'. It's something we deal with daily and it's never going to change initially for the first instance. Once people understand that it's all about control and sensation, then things become more interesting, but sadly mainstream media still tread anything adult as pervy and too sexual to be broadcast.

My concern is once estim goes mainstream they'll start banning it, or legislating the power output before taxing the jeezus out of our hobby.
