I'm wondering what kind of solder you are using, since some contain lead or other harmful chemicals, which might be fine for electronics but not so much for extended skin/mucous membrane contact?

With the friendly plastic and the way they molded it up above the solder is encased in behind the plastic, and the "friendly plastic" pretty much connects to the metal. I don't think there's risk to the user depending on what solder they use. But generally anything with skin contact/internal you want lead free. I learned about the friendly plastic from Smartstim.
