I have a similar to this one, so I guess it's the same that if the rechargeable battery runs out it will stay locked? Which isn't ideal. I have been looking for options for a timed locks. The alternatives that I found are:

1. Icelock, can be kinda messy and inconvenient plus hard to now exact time.
2. Similar lock in that ebay link but lacks the safety if battery runs out.
3. Kitchen safe, (a plastic container with a timed lid) can be used to place a key in, that than can be reached with a string attached to it, (the lid comes off easily after it automatically unlocks). But works the same as the lock in 2, so if the replaceable batteries runs out it stays locked until they are replaced.
4. Electromagnet. I haven't tried this but one that unlocks/detaches when it doesn't get power should work with a safe way to shut off the power. One that unlocks/detaches when it gets power is probably better though (less energy/heat) if you have a safe way to get power.

So for the ones I have found discounting the electromagnet because I haven't tested it, imo the best seems to be 2 easy setup and works pretty well. But 3 also works well and let's you use any lock with a key which can be a plus. But for both some safety measure is recommended, for example a way to break the lock or using 2 of them, one as reserve if the battery or something would fail on one.
