Stereo Mode output dropping

When I turn the intensity past 65% the output suddenly drops off them increases slowly to 100% but not at the intensity that one would expect from 100%. I'm thinking it might be a limiter on the stereo input. Any thoughts?

There isn't a limiter as such, but it does depend on the input signal, and also whatever you are using to power the unit (PSU or batteries?)

My laptop mostly. The input graphs indicate full signal and I'm plugged in with the PSU (pwr High).
