I found I couldn't get the 2B unit to communicate with my legacy Windows Vista PC using the current FDDI drivers although it worked OK on Windows 10.
The new Serial Test utility published by Admins showed that although the Com Port device was found by Windows no serial data was being sent.
I needed an older version of the drivers, which can be found here:

2.08.24 is the version that worked - there is a self installing executable available.
