Boosting ABox output

Post by myk »

Hi

Is it possible to boost the Abox power output by playing it through in line audio transformers (reverse wired) such as Maplins LT700?

It is not something we would recommend.

Hi Si

Why is that? I would use appropriate resistors to avoid shorting problems.

While on this topic, is there any possibility of running the Abox from the mains as with the 2B unit?

Running the ABox from the mains is certainly something I would not do, as you would have no protection from faults, the 2B has isolation built in which giver a far greater level of protection.

Why don't we recommend the additional transformer route? Well as we are the manufacturer of the ABox, if you performed such modifications and we said they were a good idea, and sonething went wrong, we would be liable, and our insurers would not be happy. We don't recommend any alterations to the units, as you will generally always find issues that have not been considered, the ABox output circuit was never designed to drive a transformer, any attempt could either damage the ABox, (the lifetime guarantee doesn't cover blowing it up because you connected it to a transformer), or could cause serious burns, (Most transformer stim designs are using 9-12V inputs, not 40-60V inputs)
