ET312 mods

At some point, was there not a company that was doing mods to the ET312, using higher end pots, circuits, better charging etc?
I have and ET312 and it could use an upgrade of a couple things. Charging for one, I ordered and installed a new charging chip as linked on the ET site, did not work, so am limited to using it connected to a wall wart now.
Also of interest, the unit itself is marked for a 12v input, however the unit came with a 15v supply, and the replacement one, still on the ET site is 15v as well.. Don't know if it matters ?
