How does Triphase work?

I don't have much electrical knowledge so please excuse any inaccuracies in the jargon I use.
As far as I understand the 2B has two isolated channels, meaning that current won't flow between those two channels but only between the leads belonging to the same channel.
What changes with the Triphase cable? Does it connect the two "grounds" of the isolated channels such that current now flows between the new common ground and both channels' "active" leads?
